High Potential and Gifted Education

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture each child’s strengths from an early stage. We provide rich and challenging learning experiences that extend advanced learners, helping them continue to grow, achieve and thrive.

Why Choose Us for Your High Potential or Gifted Child?

Recognising Potential and Developing Talent

Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.

Tailored and Differentiated Lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich Opportunities and Activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening Doors to Wider Experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is High Potential and Gifted Education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our High Potential and Gifted Education Opportunities

Our students engage with  HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom

At our school, we work in partnership with families, our school community, and the wider community to nurture the growth and achievement of every high potential and gifted student. Our teachers engage in ongoing professional learning to continually build their expertise and create opportunities for students to thrive.

We are committed to being catalysts for high performance and talent development for every child. Learning experiences are thoughtfully designed to challenge, engage, and support all learners, ensuring that each student can reach their full potential.

Teachers make adjustments to the content, learning process, product, and learning environment so that learning is matched to individual strengths, interests, and needs.

  • Teaching and learning experiences are guided by research into effective practices for facilitating high achievement and talent development.
  • Teachers design optimal learning environments where students feel supported, encouraged, and motivated to achieve excellence.
  • Classroom practices demonstrate differentiation, enrichment, and extension opportunities that are tailored to student strengths, interests, and potential.
  • Digital tools and platforms are intentionally selected to enhance engagement, foster creativity, and extend learning opportunities for high potential and gifted students.

Through these approaches, we ensure that every student is recognised, challenged, and inspired to achieve their best.

Across NSW
HPGE, or High Potential and Gifted Education, is a mandatory policy in all NSW public schools aimed at supporting and challenging every student in the intellectual, creative, social-emotional, and physical domains. The policy requires schools to identify and address the learning needs of high potential and gifted students through tailored programs, quality learning environments, and professional learning for teachers. It promotes equity and excellence by providing challenging learning opportunities for all students, including those with diverse backgrounds and in all geographic locations.
